描述:The finely enamelled round plaque, depicting a rocky formation with flowering begonias, roses and chrysanthemums and flying butterflies overhead, the edge of the plaques with stylised borders, the wood mount carved throughout with bats at the corners and further stylised scroll decoration. 描述: Each bowl delicately potted with curved sides rising to a sloped rim, painted around the exterior with a quartet of stylised lotus flowers issuing from curling leafy stems below a band containing the Eight Buddhist Emblems (bajixiang), all on a vivid yellow ground, the recessed base inscribed with a four-character xie zhu zhu ren mark in iron-red within a square cartouche  - PROVENANCE: A British private collection formed during the early 20th century; thence by descent - NOTE: Xiezhu zhuren may be translated as 'Master of the Xie Bamboo'. Xie (cutting), is the name of a valley in the Kunlun mountains, and it is said that there, during the reign of the 'Yellow Emperor' Huangdi, the first musical scale was made from varying lengths of cut bamboo. See an identical pair of bowls sold at Bonhams New Bond Street, 8th November 2018, lot 163 (sold for £8,125 inc. premium). Both bowls are in excellent condition. 描述:The lightweight robe decorated with roundels composed of solitary cranes encircled by bands of colourful blossoms, leafy stems and gourds, the lower section decorated with polychrome lishui waves converging on a rocky outcrop flanked by emerging dragons and various auspicious emblems wrapped in flowing ribbon, with black-ground ends and trim with similar crane roundel decorations, the reverse similarly-decorated to the front, all on a bright red ground 138cm long, - PROVENANCE: From the collection of General Sir Herbert Vaughan Cox, an honorary member of the Military Order of the Dragon, acquired in China circa 1900 during his military service abroad during the Boxer Rebellion; thence by descent. Herbert Vaughan Cox was a British officer in the Indian Army. Early in his career he served in the closing stages of the Second Anglo-Afghan War and was promoted lieutenant. He transferred to the Madras Staff Corps in 1882 and served in the Third Anglo-Burmese War of 1885–1886 with the 21st Madras Infantry. In 1900 he served in China during the Boxer Rebellion, for which he received the China War Medal (1900). When the First World War broke out, he was given command of the 29th Indian Brigade in Egypt, Arabia and Gallipoli, where he was wounded. He was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) in October 1915 for distinguished services in the field. He was later promoted to General, and appointed Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath (GCB) in the 1921 Birthday Honours following his retirement. He died in 1923. The Military Order of the Dragon was an exclusive fraternal order founded in 1900 by members of the China Relief Expedition, a U.S. military force that participated in the Boxer Rebellion in China. - NOTE: See a comparable robe, described as a semi-formal court robe, sold at Bonham's San Francisco, 21 June 2011, lot 8244. Another comparable robe was offered at Sotheby's New York, 18 March 2014, lot 391. See a similar 'cranes' robe, described as a 'Manchu wedding robe', sold at Christie's London, 7 Nov 2014, lot 540. 描述:The rare folding fan, enclosing a woodblock map titled 'Da Qing Yitong Nian San Sheng Yudi Quan Tu', the map of the Empire of the Unified twenty-three provinces of the Great Qing Dynasty, on the front of the fan, depicting at the center China with the Great Wall snaking across the North Western provinces, to the South the islands of Hainan, Taiwan, the Korean peninsula and Japan to the East, the map of the world inset on the lower left, the reverse of the fan there are all the listed provinces and the distances between towns and further information regarding major towns and cities, the guards made of bamboo, signed by the owner of Moxiang Guan (Hall of Fragrance of the Ink), Shenjiang, Shanghai, painted in Lingzhi Tang. - PROVENANCE: Santos, London - NOTE: Please note similar fans houses in the Library of Congress, Washington. D. C., acquired for the Library’s collections in 1934 which forms part of a special collection of Chinese cartographic materials known as the Hummel Collection. 描述:The 'semi-eggshell' dishes, decorated to the centre with four ruyi-shaped panels depicting a lady and boy alternating with a long-tailed birds on a flowering branch around a central flowerhead roundel, all reserved on a ground of gilt densely scrolling lotus with lowers in blue enamel, the everted border with unusual octafoil rim decorated with four butterfly and flowering foliage cartouches reserved on a pink diaper-pattern ground embellished with poppy and peach blossom sprays, the underside with four lotus sprays bearing deep and pale pink flowers.  (2) - PROVENANCE: Santos, London - NOTE: Please refer to a similar singular dish sold at Christie's, London, 8 November 2005, lot 105, highlighting the rarity of dishes in this foliate form, suggesting this form of dish would have been extremely expensive to order at the time of production.
